A good garden includes many factors and equipment to keep it running healthy and smoothly. But one thing I want to talk about for great gardens is mulch. Mulch is a very versatile substance which can be used for regulating temperature, weed reduction, and composting.
First, having mulch is a great way to keep a controlled temperature for the flowers. It can do this because it is a great insulator to hot or cold temperatures. For example when it is a hot summer, the mulch shades the soil beneath, cooling down the roots of the flowers. Or when it is a cold December, the mulch retains the heat in soil keeping the flowers warmer.
Secondly, mulch lowers the amount of weeds in the garden. Mulch blocks the light by not allowing the weeds to get their proper sunlight to grow. Without weeds, our flowers have less competition for nutrients and have more space to grow and flourish.
Finally, mulch can turn into compost which is a key component to a flourishing garden. It helps the plants at our flower-farm to grow faster and stronger and put out beautiful blooms. The benefits of compost range from reducing landfill waste, enriching soil, conserving water, and minimizing the need for chemical fertilizers.
Regulating temperature, weed reduction, and composting are the reasons why mulch is one of the most valuable resources in gardening. I recommend your trees and flower beds have a layer of mulch, they will thrive!
